In The Pits With The CMDRA
Race II in the CMDRA 2001 Canadian Drag Bike Series was a huge success
and started out with a bang on June 22nd in Prince George, BC, Canada.
For all those unable to attend the action packed Nitro Weekend, I offer
you my most sincere condolences. What did you miss? Well, where do I
start?
After Riding in from North West BC, I checked out the Harley Davidson of
Prince George's Open House "Meet & Greet" BBQ which welcomed Drag
Racers and Fans alike. It was complete with a Sportster Sale going on
for those wanting to enter into and try out the CMDRA's new 883 Class
Race the next day. A few Racers such as Steve Graf of Wayside Racing,
and Ross Cuthbertson of Drag-On Racing were on hand, showcasing their
Modified Bikes [Ross was "Rookie of the Year" for 2000, coming in 2nd
Place last Season.]
Later on that night, at the Central Motorsport Park Race Track, a Street
Legal Race was being held where the Racers ended up giving a great
show. Needing to get some beauty rest, I headed off to sleep with
visions of Top Fuel Bikes dancing in my head.
Saturday's Qualifying saw Racers from far and wide participating. Nice
to have some Americans at the CMDRA Races too! Hope they enjoyed the
Event as much as I did. Fans, showing up in record numbers, had a great
time as well. It was heartwarming to see all the little Guys & Gals
picking up Hero Cards and getting Autographs from the Racers. Many Race
Dreams took seed in the hearts & minds of the next generation in the
Pits during the course of the weekend. Looking to the future, I see the
Sport of Motorcycle Drag Racing continuing to grow.
Hmm...the Action? Sunday was totally mind boggling! Racing, fast and
furious, never seemed to end. The hunger to do better and go faster was
palpable. Competition was strong. The reality of seeing supreme
Motorcycle Drag Racing at it's finest was just incredible: everyone came
to win.
Some highlights in Top Fuel saw Ron Houniet of Fastlane Racing in 1st
Place with Steve Heidner of Liberty Racing in 2nd; Winner in
Pro-Dragster was Steve Cromb; Pro-Stock saw Lee Uhrich of Uhrich Racing
take home the Trophy; Modified Winner was Steve Graf of Wayside Racing
and the Super-Gas Winner was John Fyvie of FOF Racing. For a full set of
the results check out www.cmdra.com. Congratulations to all the Racers
and their Pit Crews - you sure do give your Sponsors lots to be proud
of!
Well, I'm reeling from my Nitro Fix and am high on adrenaline. I'll
admit it, I'm a Nitro Addict but I don't mind…I shudder to think what
life would be like without the smell of burning rubber, Nitro in the air
and the thunder of the Top Fuel Bikes as they Race down the Track.
Makes a Girl think about getting in on some of the action, doesn't it?
But for now I'm just happy being In The Pits helping out. Race III is
just a few weeks away on July 14-15, 2001, at Mission Raceway Park in
Mission, BC, Canada. See you there!
