For Immediate Release June 11, 2012
CMDRA 3rd Round Cut Short Due To Inclement Weather
The Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association 2012 Season brought to you by Parts Canada
and Drag Specialties moved to Castrol Raceway in Edmonton Alberta on June 9th and 10th for
the Spring Nationals presented by the Harley Davidson Dealers of Northern Alberta. A delayed
start on Saturday saw a brief respite in the rain; however the mid afternoon return of
precipitation closed the track part way through the second qualification round and eventually
forced the cancellation of the scheduled races.
The Blackjack’s Roadhouse Pro Modified class stood out during the limited track time. Tony
Clizbe of Brooks Alberta recovered from a failed transmission in his first run to return and record
the overall quickest time of 6.769 seconds at 199.07 mph. At 6.893 seconds Len Darnell of
Vancouver Washington was the second quickest for both the class and overall, while 2011 class
champion Gary Christopher ran a time of 6.959 as the 3rd bike in the class to break the 7 second
mark.
In other classes, local Edmonton racers Kevin Boyer and Al Miles topped qualifying in the
Screamin’ Eagle Top Fuel and Pro Dragster classes respectively, while Calgary's Ethan Barkley
had a pair of 7.85 second runs confirming his position as the one to beat in Pro Street.
A complete listing of qualifying times will be available soon at www.CMDRA.com.
The Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association returns to action with the Sturgis North Nitro
Nationals which will take place in Ashcroft BC on July 21st and 22nd.
